Could Trump presidency be causing Punta Gorda divorces?

When asked why they chose to end their marriage, no two spouses will have the exact same set of reasons. Divorce is a complicated matter, one that depends heavily on the personalities, expectations, behaviors and preferences of the two individuals involved. In some cases, disagreements over political matters can cause tension in a marriage. According to some, the Trump presidency might be pushing those tensions to the limit, and causing some Punta Gorda residents to divorce.

Wakefield Research conducted a survey asking couples about what the sources of tension are within their marriages. Researchers found that opposing points of view on the current political scenario is a leading cause of discontent. While the full results of the study have not yet been released, Wakefield has suggested that partners who have vastly different approaches to the Trump presidency could be headed for divorce, and also that whom one voted for could impact future relationships, as well.

Divorce attorneys are also weighing in, stating that there is a noticeable uptick in the number of marriages that are moving toward divorce over political disagreement. Attorneys in England believe that the recent decision to exit the European Union has led to similar levels of discontent and divorce. People from all walks of life and across the political spectrum have encountered tension when discussing the current political landscape at work, at family gatherings and in the workplace.

It should be noted that holding opposing views on political matters is not in and of itself a reason to end a Punta Gorda marriage. Disagreement on this issue may simply be bringing out underlying issues that are plaguing the marriage. It would be a stretch to say that the Trump administration is causing a spike in divorce, but it might be fair to say that political tensions may just be the straw that broke the camel's back.
